As much as we love restoring and refinishing pieces for our customers, we thoroughly enjoy the challenge of creating a custom piece from paper to completion. We were approached by an interior designer needing a piece that was unique to her client but within their budget. They’d found and fallen in love with a very expensive table that was a little too large, not quite the right shape, the wrong type of wood, and, obviously, out of their budget.
After a conversation with the designer, we chose some gorgeous blue pine, and set about designing a turned pedestal, custom feet, and a 30″ top. The chance to design and turn the pedestal turned into a gorgeous swooping shape that flows into the chunky feet. Hand sanding of the pedestal created a silken surface for the stain. The top was a simple jointed section that we cut and softened with the router, then hand sanded.
We used a Weathered Oak stain and Polyurethane in satin finish.
The table was delivered and installed and the family loves it!
